North District is the place for
nature lovers, where it can be described as the land
of intense beauty imbued with a mystic aura. One can
have an exquisite experience through alpine scenery
and valley of flowers. |

Kabi Lungchok
On the way to North District at a distance of 17
kilometres from Gangtok is the historical place
where treaty of brotherhood was signed ritually
between the Lepcha Chief; Te–Kung–Tek and Bhutia
Chief; Khey–Bum–Sa. The evidence of ceremony for
signing the treaty is marked by memorial stone
pillar amidst the cover of dense forest. |

Phensang Monastery
Monastery under Nyingmapa Buddhist Order was built
in 1721 during the time of Jigmee Pawo on the slope
stretching from Kabi Phodong. Rebult in 1948 where
it was gutted by fire during 1947, the annual
festival of Chaam is performed on the 28th and 29th
days of the tenth month of Tibetan Calendar. |

Phodong Monastery
Situated at North District at a distance of about 38
kilometres from Gangtok, Phodong Monastery is one of
the six major monasteries in Sikkim. |

Chungthang
Village predominated by Lepchas is situated at the
confluence of Lachen and Lachung Chu and the
starting point of river Teesta. It is the nodal
junction for lichen and Lachung. The valley of
Chungthang as believed has been blessed by Guru
Rimpochee. 95 kilometres from Gangtok, place is rich
with bio – diversity where large variety of orchids,
many plants and wildlife exists. |

Lachung
Avillage at an altitude of 8000 feet, with its
unique self governing body called Dzumsa which
substitute the panchayat. A gateway to Yumthang
valley at a distance of 25 kilometres, this village
has retained its unique culture and tradition. The
Lachung Monastery on the slope opposite the highway
is the focal point of all religious functions of
local inhabitants. |

Yumthang
Yumthang at a commanding height of 11,800 feet and
popularly known as “Valley of Flowers” is a paradise
for nature lovers with a fascinating blend of flora
and fauna and breathtaking scenic beauty. This
valley is the home of Shingbha Rhododendron
Sanctuary with 24 species of Rhododendrons. A hot
spring at the right side offers the spectacular view
with the vast spread of green meadow and forest
dressed in pine and silver fir trees. |

Further up at an altitude of about 16,000 feet
is Yumesamdong which offers the breath taking

Guru Dongmar
At the height of 17,800 feet this lake is considered
one of the most sacred lakes of Sikkim by the
locals. The lake remains milky in colour throughtout
the year and is believed that Guru Padmasambhava had
touched it while coming back from Tibet. Restricted
