Lush vegetations and animals in Darjeeling region covering Terai area, Kalimpong and Kurseong as–well are similar in accordance with the altitude of the these places. As these region starts right from terai area to alpine zones at Phalut while covering temperatures zones like in Kalimpong, Kurseong and tea garden areas in Darjeeling. The botanical and zoological richness can be described as the fabulous gift of nature which is abundant in region and diverse in range.

In tropical forest in terai area sal (Shorea Robusta), Segum (Tectona Grandis) Bamboos, Sheesham along with varieties of Teak, Creepers, Herbs, Shurbs are found. At temperature zones, Magnolia, Chestnut. Oak, Laurels, Maple, Birch, Alder etc, are found. Higher up while ascending to alpine region one could find Rhododendrons, Pines (Cryptomera Japanica) while taking the coniferous forest to the altitude of 4000 metres. There exist about 40 types of flowering plants such as Orchids, 26 varieties of Rhododendrons, Lilies and White Rose from 5000 metres above. Alpine Shrubs, Juniper, Bistort, Hemlock, Willow, and tree ferns like Assophillias grow. Apart from above the cultivated vegetations of Tea, Potatoes, Cardamoms, Rice, Maize, Millets, Peas, Beans, Squash, Cauliflowers, Cabbages, Tomatoes, Oranges, Bananas, Pumpkins, Pineapples, Plums etc are also grown.

 In alpine region there exist; Snow Leopard, Lynx, Pallas Cat, Panda, Musk Deer, Bharal etc. While going down are Paguma Larwata, Felis Marmorata, Black Bear, Pangolin, Porcupines, Weasel, Moles, Tahr, Wild Goat, Squirrels, and Ducks etc. Terai area with tropical weather is the place inhabitated by Elephants, Tigers, Foxes, Jackals, Leopard Cats, Hyenas, etc. The birds in tropical region and temperate regions are Peafowl, Quail, Dove, Woodpecker, Pheasant etc. There also exists Frogs, Toads, Snakes, Lizards and other reptiles. Higher up in the hills the Warbler exist with Partridge, Monal etc. Golden eagle and Vultures are also found in higher altitudes.
